Erin Sherrill - Project 5
For my final project, I wanted to explore the concept of imagination. This project explores the idea of imagination and creativity within the human mind. This piece which attempts to capture the inside of a person's mind, in this case, my mind, displays a sort of personal and imaginative world. As an artist, I enjoy creating characters and an environment for them to interact in. This piece shows the vividness of the human imagination through my own imagination's reality.

Reflection:
With this project, I decided to explore creativity within my imagination. As an artist, I enjoy creating characters and developing an environment for these characters to interact in. My approach to this project was to create humorous characters and a scene that seems bright and friendly but is rather dark in its actual meaning. My peer mentor was one of my friends within the graphic design program. Sarah gave me feedback on my piece including ideas for the background and doing something with the mouth. This was helpful feedback and her point was that creativity and our imaginations expand to outside the mind and fill the world around us or in this case the background. Each character in my piece has its own little scene that builds into the large picture. This, in my head, is how I think creatively. I think in detail or smaller chunks and combine these little ideas into one big picture. I tried to capture this with this project by making each character and their scene interact with each other but while still being able to make sense in a standalone view. This project also allowed me to explore the different sides of my imagination and what happens when we unleash our peak creativity. As I said I created characters that seemed bright and happy but also had a darker meaning behind them. This was my way of connecting the idea that art is inspired by our emotions, and that people may seem bright and happy on the outside but could be struggling on the inside. Overall this project was a fun way to explore illustrator and creating characters while also exploring creativity and imagination as more than a surface level concept.
