SPEAK OUT: PHOTOBOMB
by: Ashley DuRard

I started with this photo which I took for a photography project. I knew I wanted to use one of these photos and start with a black and white photo. This left me open for putting my own colors in or living the final piece black and white.

This was the photobomb photo that I received. I had two different options to use the photo of a shadow. When I first saw this image I thought of a hand reaching up to grab something and decided to take it in a much creepier way. I later found out that this was meant to be a bunny. Ooops.

After playing with several ideas I landed on this idea of exploring mental health and what that feels like. As someone who goes through anxiety and depression along with other aspects of mental heath I felt this was a strong representation of what it is like. The had over the mouth preventing you from talking about it or being scared to. Then the hands reaching out of the head this feeling of trying to grab on to something while your brain is running in so many directions.

Once we included the surprise I used the words of the poem which I felt really enhanced the concept and meaning I was trying to get across. I formatted it like a poster or magazine cover because I want this to be something shown and that people need to be aware of and this would be an exigent format.
