Project 4: Surrealist Photobomb
I struggled with choosing an image for myself because I was thinking about what my secondary image would be. I realized that there was no way to plan for it so I just decided to take a picture of something that I thought could make an interesting composition.
I got my secondary image from Kelsey. It was a picture of water with light ripples.
I didn't know how to combine the two images. My first thought was to make the water look like it was flowing out of the ukulele.
I really didn't like the way that this was looking. I was struggling to make it look realistic so I decided to scrap that idea. After that, I started playing with blending modes. I liked this a lot more so I decided to pursue that.
For the surprise element, I chose one of the light paintings. My composition was already pretty dark so I thought adding in the light painting would be a nice element.
I got to this point and I felt that the composition needed some dimension. It felt flat and I didn't really like that so I changed the placement of the outline to add depth.
This is my final composition. I love the colors that came through from using the different blending modes. It's hard to recognize the water in certain portions of the composition but I like that. I like the abstract nature of the background. I chose to outline the ukulele with white and added an outer glow to extend the effect of the light painting. I think this brings the entire composition together.
