Life and Death and Music

This project was a lot of fun for me to explore because I am largely into photography during my time outside of class. Being able to develop a project based purely around photographs naturally was exciting for me. For my subject, I went back into an older folder of photos I hadn't used before and came across a picture of a skull from my old school and decided to use it as my subject.

I started with just the basic image of the skull and centered it in the middle of the page. After that, I had to figure out how to incorporate my classmate's image.

I played around with a bunch of different compositions, but I was really drawn to the gesture of the hand on the figure and used it as my element to create a tribal inspired crown for the skull.

After that, I had to figure out what surprise image that I wanted to use and settled on the church. This gave my figure a almost blank, but easily recognizable space to exist in without taking away from the skull as the subject.

I decided to layer another image over my image with a picture I created by using low shutter speed to "paint" with the light. This element gave my image an extra element of movement and energy to contrast the static grim elements of the rest of the image.

To finish it off, I chose a color gradient to lay over my image to give it more energy and I chose these colors because I typically associate them with death and rotting. I wanted to have my image offer feelings of discomfort and unsettledness. This is the Final Product.
