From Earth to Shiny

For this project I wanted to work with something that meant a lot to me. I work at Doe Ridge Pottery and I work with clay a lot. It's something that I really enjoy doing and it can be very meditative. One of the rings I wear every day is made from silver clay. I think our relationship with nature is incredibly important and there's a cycle/trend that we can make through silver clay and wearable silver.

For the process photos, I chose to take pictures of my ring in nature. Making the correlation between where clay comes from and where it ended up.
This is the image I ended up choosing. I really liked the composition and the colors of this image.
I wanted to work abstractly, but I also wanted to frame the main point.

This is my final piece. I liked the dark blue background with the bright orange on top of it. I think my biggest critique is that the ring gets a little lost in the collage. I don't know if it's the first thing people see, but it definitely should be. The lines are decorative as well as interpretive. The lines connect and flow through nature and lead to the eventual product that is the ring.
