Turn Off the Water- Ashley DuRard

When I first started this project I was very lost. I knew I wanted to do a sink because I liked the concept of something coming out or dripping. I started with a basic sink with a basin. From there I started looking at the parts of the sink like the handles and the spout.

This was the first basic design that I drew. It helped me decide which part of the sink I wanted to focus on.

I started drawing out different types of spouts. This one that I found most interesting looks almost like a hose faucet. I was fascinated by the shape of the knob and want dot incorporate that into my piece as the repeating element.

This is the product realized without the background or repeated element. I put the faucet on the human as the head. I wanted to include several elements that represented different meanings. The coat, the flowers, and the positioning of the faucet on the head. The positioning of the arms of the human.

This is the fully realized product. I repeated different knob shapes as my background in the position as if they were able to be turned. The flowers/ human representing nature or Mother Nature. The coat is her way of protecting herself from the over consumption of humans. This overconsumption includes not only the obvious but the overuse of water. America has a problem of leaving the faucet on and taking the use of water for granted. This is a luxury that some countries don't have access to. Not only is this a problem in other countries but could become a problem for the environment that would effect the whole world.
