Savannah Stevens- Fantasy Appliance

The appliance I chose to base my project around was a refrigerator. When I first picked it I went back and forth with ideas until I thought of a teleportation device. My idea plays a huge role in how much I would like to travel once out of college but it's not always that easy. I always imagine during long drives or flights how simple life would be if we could just transport to our favorite city (New York.)

My first step of the project was sketching

I then did research on what kind of fridge I wanted to use. I ended up choosing the house hold refrigerator because of the specific shelving and that I could easily show food being placed in it.

After picking my city and fridge I decided to start exploring in Illustrator 

and began tracing my images.

After finishing the tracing of my images I put them together to start playing around with the idea of transportation device and how I could translate that. After much discussion with my classmates and research on teleportation devices I came to my final product.

I decided to use something that looked galactic in a sense. I wanted to make the fridge tilted like it was moving from the light source going across it. The only thing I truly struggled with is what else to put in New York to really connect teleportation device. My repeating pattern is the light beams coming from the machine and I also repeated eggs in my fridge falling into New York. I tried to portray the action of if someone opened the fridge and picked the place they wanted to go and the machine started to turn on and get ready for teleportation. If I had more time I would think on the background a little more for New York as well as behind the fridge and machine. Overall this project was time consuming but helped me gain knowledge in Illustrator.
