Silver Springs
Lyrics that inspired this photo: "you could be my silver springs, blue green colors flashing - I could be your only dream" & "you'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you"
I tried to hide Stevie's figure in this one. It is still there, its just very faint. She looks like she is close to being forgotten but not quite. I did this to reiterate the meaning of the lyrics "you'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you". I also created a pattern of lines in Illustrator and transferred them over to Photoshop.
Bella Donna
Lyrics that inspired this photo:"The lady's feeling just like the moon that she loves" & "The woman is so tired, so the woman disappears, come in out of the darkness..Bella Donna, my SOUL"
Rolling stones did an interview with Stevie in 1981 about this album and song entitled "Bella Donna". She states that Bella Donna is a term of endearment she uses and the title is about making changes in her life based on the turmoil in her soul. Also, for this album cover she was dressed in all white which was/still is unusual for Stevie. The white dress represents her coming out of the darkness she was stuck in.
So after reading that I obviously had to make her white to show her coming out of the darkness. This pose is very strong and feminine and I think it captures the emotions of rising up and being strong even when you don't think its possible.
Trouble in Shangri La
Lyrics that inspired this photo: "you can consume all the beauty in the room baby, I know you can I've seen you do it and it brings up the wind, it rises around you in pillars of color"
I used my scanned photo for this recreation. I wanted the stems to represent the "pillars of color" rising up around the figure. I think there is a real sense of movement in this photo. The other photos I used were posed. This was a candid photo captured of Stevie dancing on stage at a concert. Her bell sleeves look like wings giving this piece a very whimsical/fairy vibe.
Sorcerer
Lyrics that inspired this photo: "A man and woman on a star stream, in the middle of a snow dream" & "All around black ink darkness, who found lady of the mountains"
This one is pretty self explanatory but I wanted her to literally look like she was in a snowy dream. I kept the mountain range lighter for this reason. The black sky= "all around, black ink darkness". Lastly, I chose this image because of the high contrast and the strength this pose exudes. A true "Lady from the mountains". I also thought it was pretty cool how it looks like she is holding a bouquet of trees. Totally unintentional bur I am glad it happened.
