Project 1

The appliance I decided to use for this project was an herb grinder. I chose this because it has several different parts with a very mechanical look to them.

I started by outlining the grinder, making sure to get each of the different "gears".

Next I filled the outline and differentiated between the different faces.


This is where my idea starts to gain traction and become something different. My thought here was that I would turn the grinder into a stadium or colosseum.


My final idea was that all the people were piling into the "stadium" for some kind of concert or show. I chose this idea because I liked the idea of such a small item being made into a much bigger architectural structure.
I wanted the grinder-stadium to be the main focus of this piece, with the people filing in acting as an active background. A big inspiration I had for this overall composition was the video game "Inside". In the game, most of the focus is on an empty/plain foreground with a busy and active background.
The overall idea of this piece relies heavily on the way the grinder is used.
