Project 1: Fantasy Appliance

The Appliance

The appliance I chose was an oven. Initially, I chose a coffee pot but I decided to go with the oven instead. When I think of an oven it reminds me of home and warmth. Below are a few photos that I used for reference: 

 

The Environment

I chose to put my oven in an arcade and turn it into a Whack-a-Mole game. It was one of my favorite arcade games growing up. Below are photos I used as inspiration while laying out my design:

First time using Illustrator:

I have never used this program before so this project was extremely difficult for me. I am a printmaker and a painter so digital art is foreign to me. I kept it pretty simple for this reason. The whole layers thing really threw me for a loop. I also struggled with the pen tool but I eventually got the hang of it. Below are some photos of my work in progress. 

My Overall Experience:

So, I am not super proud of this image I created but I tried my best. However, I do think its hilarious. I hope with more practice and time I will be able to navigate Illustrator a little better and create more mature works of art. This was way out of my comfort zone. Below is a photo of my final image!
