Ever since I participated in the climate stories project last semester I have become increasingly interested in climate change around the world, and the stupid things mankind is doing to expedite the rise of it. So, when I was brainstorming this project the amazon rainforest fires were huge in the news. That is what has inspired this project the most.

I chose the vacuum because I wanted to show the effect that man is having on the earth. Quite literally we are sucking away the resources we have just like the vacuum cleaner sucks up trash. So I picked it as my appliance and began searching for the right vacuum. I took some photos of my vacuum at home and decided it still wasn’t right so I settled on this clunky very expensive vacuum cleaner that I found on the internet.

I began the vector building process of recreating the vacuum. I thought I had done it the right way the whole time, but when I got to the end, I realized the way the previous step had been completed was not going to allow for the gradients to be filled correctly. So, I started over and finally got the vacuum to look the way I desired. My progress work won't upload for some reason but I have it saved to my drive.

In the meantime, I had begun playing around with the placement of objects in the foreground and experimenting with the background.

I decided on placement and moved in my palm trees and overlaid them with the flame vectors. I used a paintbrush tool in photoshop to add the glow effect.

This is the final piece. I learned a lot about what not to do throughout this process, and I hope to continue learning new techniques in the future.
