Erin Sherrill - Project 01 - Fantasy Appliance

 

Project 1:

My appliance for this project was a mixer.

After finding a photo with the angle I liked for my composition, I traced the appliance and added other elements that were needed such as a mixing cup and a bowl.

My idea was to show how we as a society are mixing our earth with toxic harm. This piece is focused on human-caused pollution and how we are willingly mixing all these toxins together with our home.

Throughout the process, I kept sketching and developing my design within this one page which features my original sketch.

My first composition had the background as a kitchen where a mixer would normally belong.

I decided to change my background to something less common and added the American flag to emphasize that people are causing this pollution issue.

In this edit, I decided that the poison symbol on the mixing cup would make the message of my composition clearer.

For my final composition, I added the repeating element from my mixer into the background. The leftmost three stripes of the flag have the metal whisk texture from the mixer.
